TITLE: Certified Lifeguard
REPORTS TO: Site Program Director/Director of Operations
DESCRIPTION CATEGORY: Seasonal
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere which promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with BGCA Family Center policies and procedures.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Boys & Girls Club Family
Center policies and procedures. Creates reports as required.
Maintains effective, positive relationships with club members, families and staff.
Knows and understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the Boys & Girls Club Family Canter and/or Health Department code.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
Checks pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival.
Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
Actively participate in monthly coaching/supervision sessions with reporting supervisor.
Minimum 18 years of age. Must be certified in CPR for the professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen. Currently Lifeguard certified with the American Red Cross or equivalent. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. Able to see and observe all sections of the assigned zone area of responsibility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical demand: Minimal with potentially high physical demand.
Mental/visual demand: Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and high visual attention at all time.
